Gary's School Holiday Tips For Indoor Fun

Gary's School Holiday Tips For Indoor Fun

I used to be a teacher, so I know if you’re like most parents, you’re probably trying to work out how to entertain kids for weeks on end, without breaking the bank, or juggle working commitments and keeping them entertained while on Zoom calls. So here are some ideas to help kids amused over the school holidays. I've suggested this for all ages.

1) Reading and activity books
Snuggle up to a book, or perhaps try a colouring or sticking activity. If your little one can’t sit still, you could try jigsaw puzzle. It’s a perfect activity to get them off the screens and get their little imaginations brewing.

2) Swimming and water guns
Water is inexpensive and always a hit with kids. We’ve never met a kid that doesn’t love a swim or a water gun. Think grins, squeals and summer magic memory making.

3) Bedroom makeover
Kids love redesigning their room and reorganising their toys. If your little one loves dinosaurs or unicorns, you could have a night light. It can sit on the side of their bed. It’s always a fun activity to keep kids busy.

4) Origami
It’s a fun activity to do together or to do on their own. You can make origami animals or paper planes. Heaps of fun and a great rainy day activity.

5) STEM games/activities
Why not play and learn at the same time? There are some really cool educational games or activities for kids. The new thing is digging and trying to find the hidden treasures.

6) Crafting, colouring
Weaving is a simple fun activity, as is making candles or your own earrings. Another fun thing to do is stencilling. It has a bit of a retro 1980s feel, but is a bit of fun if your kid is a bit of a doddler.

7) Playdates and board games
Getting kids to play together is always fun. Why not invite another kid (or kids of your own) to head to your house and play a few fun games? There’s nothing like this on school holidays and everyone loves to giggle and have a bit of fun.
